Three-time Grammy Award winner to perform in HK

     Ladysmith Black Mambazo, a three-time Grammy Award winner from South Africa, will be in Hong Kong to give A cappella concerts in June.

     In a career spanning more than 40 years, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has recorded 40 albums and sold more than six million records. With the album "ilembe: Honoring Shaka Zulu", they won their third Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Recording this year.

     Mambazo has also recorded with numerous artists from around the world including Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Ben Harper, Josh Groban, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant and Melissa Etheridge. Their film work includes a featured appearance in Michael Jackson's video "Moonwalker" and Spike Lee's "Do it A Cappella". Mambazo has provided soundtrack material for Disney's "The Lion King Part II", Eddie Murphy's "Coming To America", Marlon Brando's "A Dry White Season", James Earl Jones' "Cry The Beloved Country" and Sean Connery's "League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

     In Hong Kong, they will bring to audiences a series of songs that marries the intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native South African musical traditions to the sounds and sentiments of Christian gospel.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "A Cappella Series: Ladysmith Black Mambazo from South Africa" concerts will be at 8pm on June 19 and 20 (Friday and Saturday) at the Sha Tin Town Hall and Hong Kong City Hall respectively. Tickets priced from $100 to $220 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (Limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come-first-served basis). 10% off will be given for each purchase of standard tickets for two concerts of the A Cappella Series: "Chanticleer" and "Ladysmith Black Mambazo".
