Twelve employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 30) pursued 12 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $203,500 on behalf of 39 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, a defendant, Chan Yat Pang and Cheng Chor Sang trading as Ka Lai Brassieres Factory, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $20,253.78, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other 11 defendants, namely Modern Apex Arts Limited, Tsoi Mau Hung, Kong Kwok On & Fong Chun Hing trading as Wing Lun Construction Engineering, Kiss My Kids Limited, Lee Ping Kong trading as Luen Hing Cargo Breaker & Transport Co., Global Way Investment Limited, Top Power Development (HK) Limited, Leung Wing Sang, Raymond and Leung Wing Hong Romance trading as Easy Air Condition, Uniregent China Limited, The Jadeite Workshop Limited, Excellady Fashion Wholesale and Happy Mount Holdings Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $46,937.26, $40,213.22, $30,241.82, $24,980, $16,969.12, $6,146.43, $5,690.1, $4,077, $3,517.65, $2,992.5 and $1,538.08, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $240, $179, $249, $190, $190, $136, $106, $129, $96, $166, $76 and $76 as the costs in respect of the claims.
