The Education Bureau (EDB) today (March 30) launched an expression of interest exercise for Non-government Organisations (NGOs) and tertiary institutions for the bidding of to-be vacated premises in Sai Kung for staging educational programmes and delivering educational services for gifted students.

The premises concerned is the ex-premises of the Sai Kung Field Studies Centre in the Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre, Tui Min Hoi, Sai Kung.

A bureau spokesman said, "To strengthen Hong Kong students' creativity and gifted education for the students, we are exploring the possibility of stepping up off-school educational services to provide more chances for youngsters to engage in challenging learning opportunities in various domains."

"To make the best use of the venue, we encourage the running of off-school programmes such as study camps, workshops and mentorship schemes all of which could serve as a platform for gifted students to stretch their talents and potential."

"To achieve this goal, the site is now available for open bidding by NGOs and tertiary institutions for the provision of relevant educational services.  EDB will consider sponsoring the programmes to be run by the successful bidder."

The successful bidder will be granted a period of tenancy for two to three years tentatively starting from late 2009 for the operation of the site.
