The Government today (March 27) announced the appointment of Mr Bunny Chan Chung-bun as Chairman of the Commission on Youth (COY) for a two-year term starting from April 1, 2009.

A government spokesman said Mr Chan was a dedicated and reputable community leader with significant contributions in the promotion of youth affairs and other community services. He has been a member of the COY since April 2004.

"Mr Chan founded the Hong Kong Association of Youth Development in April 2007 which aimed to bring the community together in support of the all-round development of youths. With his rich experience and commitment in youth development matters, the COY, under Mr Chan's chairmanship, will continue to provide valuable advice to the Government on the overall strategy and specific measures for promoting youth development in Hong Kong," the spokesman said.

The spokesman also extended the Government's gratitude to the outgoing chairman, Mr Joseph Lee Chung-tak, for his valuable contributions to the work of the COY. Mr Lee has served in the COY for eight years.

Under his steer in the past two years, the commission has made significant strides in promoting the sense of national identity among youth. The COY has launched a new Youth National Education Funding Scheme to subsidise and support large-scale activities to promote national education," the spokesman said.
