Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, at a media session at the Main Wing of the Central Government Offices this morning (March 24):
Reporter: What will the Government do to restore public confidence in the short term?
Chief Executive: We have done quite a few things. The Health Department has conducted a thorough inspection of all the manufacturing plants, and the Hospital Authority is now going through a thorough going-over of all the medicine, all the drugs being dispensed to patients. We are now going to have an investigation into the various incidents to make sure if there is any mistakes, any error, any omissions committed by any of our colleagues, any of our staff concerned. We will take this matter very seriously. At the same time, as you know, we are going to have a thorough investigation of the system itself, the supervisory system itself. This afternoon we are going to announce the membership of this committee and we are going to conduct this investigation seriously and quickly.
