Winners of flower show plant exhibit competition announced

     The winners of the Hong Kong Flower Show 2009 Plant Exhibit Competition were announced today (March 14).

     At the prize presentation ceremony today, two Overall Best of the 2009 Hong Kong Flower Show Cups were presented to the winners. Mr Li Ping-fai won the Open Competition Section with his bonsai exhibit, while students from T.W.G. Hs. Li Ka Shing College won the School Section with three pots of succulent plants.

     The winner of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) Western Style Garden Plot Competition was Central and Western District while the winner of the LCSD Oriental Style Garden Plot Competition was Southern District.

     The plant exhibit competition attracted more than 2,000 entries and was one of the most popular activities of the Hong Kong Flower Show. The overall standard of entries in the various categories of the competition was outstanding.

     Organised by the LCSD, the flower show is held at Victoria Park from now until March 22 from 9am to 9pm.

     The show's theme flower is the Cosmos and its theme is "Blossoming Welcome for the EAG". More than 350,000 flowers, among which are some 60,000 pots of Cosmos of over 40 cultivars are on display.

     The event has attracted about 200 organisations from 20 countries to take part in showcasing exotic flowers and plants, landscape and floral art displays, transforming Victoria Park into a colourful wonderland throughout the show period.

     A series of fringe activities are arranged for the enjoyment of visitors. Activities include music and dance performances, green talks, floral art demonstrations, cooking demonstrations and fun games.

     Admission tickets are available at the entrance to the showground at Victoria Park throughout the show period. They are also available now until March 22 at LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices, and venues with Leisure Link services.

     Admission for adults is $14. Children aged between 4 and 14, students, senior citizens aged 60 or above and persons with disabilities pay half price. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities will have free admission on weekdays while adults in a group of 30 or more admitted at the same time will pay half price on weekdays.
