The Government today (March 13) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Democratic Republic of the Congo) Regulation 2009. The regulation came into effect on the same date.
¡§The regulation implements sanctions against Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) imposed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 1857,¡¨ a Government spokesman said.
The sanctions under the regulation include:
- prohibition against the supply, delivery and carriage of arms and related material to persons operating in the territory of the DR Congo;
- prohibition against the provision to such persons of assistance, advice or training related to military activities;
- prohibition against making available to or for the benefit of certain persons or entities any funds or other financial assets or economic resources; and
- prohibition against entry into or transit through the HKSAR by certain persons.
