In response to his appointment by the Government, The Ombudsman (Designate), Mr Alan Lai Nin, issued the following statement today (March 9):
"I am honoured to accept the Chief Executive's appointment as The Ombudsman for five years starting from April 1, 2009. I will do my utmost to serve the public by acting independently and fairly in investigating into matters of public concern in accordance with the powers bestowed upon me under The Ombudsman Ordinance. I believe my public administration experience of over 30 years will help me to discharge effectively my duties as The Ombudsman.
I look forward to working closely with colleagues in The Ombudsman's Office. Together we will ensure that the Office will continue to be one of the most important channels in handling public grievances against maladministration."
