The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will perform an array of Chinese TV and movie theme songs in "Hits of TV and Movies Music" in April.
Featuring versatile actress Paw Hee-ching, erhu soloist Hou Shihchieh and the Phoenix Female Chorus of Huangbei from Shenzhen, the concerts will be held at 4pm on April 5 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall; at 3pm on April 12 (Sunday) at the Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre and at 3pm on April 19 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre.
Under the baton of Wai Sing-fat, Kong Wai-kei and Gao Li, the orchestra will play many classic tunes, including "Shanghai By Night", "The Crescent Moon over China", "The Evening Primrose" and "Rose, Rose, I love You"; movie hits such as "They Say Shanxi Is Such a Scenic Place", "I Love You, China", an arrangement of "Ode to Heroes" and "My Motherland", and the premiere of "A Medley of Movie Soundtrack Music" featuring Hou.
The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra was established in 1979 to promote Chinese music and carry forward its rich heritage. Its members are professionally trained recitalists and winners of the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. Some of them were selected by the Music Office as the "Hong Kong Elite" to give touring performances abroad.
In 1999, the orchestra, celebrating its 20th anniversary, organised a highly successful concert entitled "The Way We Were" performed with the Keat Hong Chinese Orchestra from Singapore, the Professional Cultural Centre Orchestra from Malaysia and the Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra from Australia.
The orchestra has made many recordings including the "gold disc" winner, "Fishermen's Song of the East Sea". The orchestra has also toured Singapore, the United States, Australia and a number of Mainland cities.
"Hits of TV and Movie Music" is one of the entertaining programmes in the "Family Fiesta" series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $80 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20% is offered for group booking and "Family Fiesta Series" schemes.
