Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital announces disciplinary proceedings

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     In relation to the Investigation Report on the incident of missing a baby body, the Hospital Chief Executive of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH), Dr Loretta Yam, announced today (February 18) that after a thorough study of the Report and careful consideration, the hospital has decided to proceed with disciplinary actions as follows:
 
     The hospital management will issue counseling and warning to the following staff who have shown unsatisfactory performance:

- Chief of Service has been served a written counseling.
- Department Manager will be served a written warning.
- Mortuary Attendant 1 has been served a written counseling.
- Mortuary Attendant 3 has been served a written counseling and will soon return to original post

     PYNEH will convene a Committee of Inquiry (COI) to consider appropriate disciplinary actions to be taken against the following staff who have shown grossly unsatisfactory performance or committed gross misconduct:

- Administrative Assistant
- Mortuary Technician  (also suspended from employment pending results of COI)

     ˇ§The Human Resources Division of the Hong Kong East Cluster has started preparing for the COI.  The first meeting of the COI will be held within this week.  Since the Investigation Report has already stated the duties and responsibilities of all staff in the Department of Pathology and has pointed out the unsatisfactory performance or misconduct of the relevant staff, it is expected that the COI will be able to make recommendations in 2 weeksˇ¦ time,ˇ¨ Dr Yam said.
