Young people and job-seekers wishing to know career prospects in Hong Kong's maritime industry are welcome to visit the booth of the Marine Department at the Education and Careers Expo 2009 to be open to the public at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre tomorrow (February 19).
The Marine Department aims to enhance public understanding of the maritime industry, and to attract youngsters to join the industry.
Apart from display panels and videos featuring the functions and operations of the department, the booth also provides information on the six recruitment ranks in the department, and including their duties, entry requirements, salaries and promotion prospects.
The six recruitment ranks are Marine Officer, Surveyor of Ships, Assistant Marine Controller, Marine Inspector II, Assistant Mechanical Inspector and Works Supervisor II.
A special feature at the booth is a "Full Mission Ship Simulator" enabling visitors to experience the fun of navigating across Hong Kong waters in simulated scenarios, thus getting a better understanding of a maritime career.
Marine officers will be present to answer enquiries.
The Education and Careers Expo 2009 is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from February 19-22. Admission is free.
