Suspended sentence for man intimidating public officer
******************************************************

A man was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment, suspended and put on binding-over order for two years, by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (February 18) after being convicted of intimidating a public officer.

The incident took place on January 12 when a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department officer asked the man to clear goods causing obstruction to public access while inspecting a hawker fixed pitch at Kam Wa Street, Shau Kei Wan.

The man intimidated the officer by wielding an iron pipe.

"Criminal intimidation is not only wrong, but also carries legal consequences," a department spokesman said.

He urged the public to co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties.
