CSSA caseload for January

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in January showed a slight decrease of 69 cases over December 2008, representing an insignificant decrease of 0.02%, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (February 18).

     Total CSSA caseload at the end of January stood at 284,500 (see attached table), with a total of 476,155 recipients.

     Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a slight increase of 0.01% in January to 31,775.

     Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.04% in January to 36,179.

     Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 1.0% to stand at 15,914.

     Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $18 billion for 2007-08.
