Nine employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 11) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $229,000 on behalf of 51 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Two defendants, Lok Chun Lin trading as Luen Fat Manufacturing FYT and Best Leader Engineering Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $40,625.78 and $16,323.44, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other seven defendants, Fung Sui Hon and Wong Chi Keung formerly trading as Hon Keung Furniture Manufactory Co, Union Charm Limited trading as Shun Tak Yue Wong Seafood Restaurant, Omnicon Freight Management Limited, Star East Management Limited, Full Best Industrial Limited, Vanco Logistics Limited and J P Products Co. Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $48,623.54, $44,983.42, $44,971.50, $23,310, $5,040, $3,906.24 and $1,701.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $240, $90, $239, $230, $246, $206, $176, $196 and $178.
