The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 9) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $128,000 on behalf of 25 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
None of the defendants - Ho Tin Yin trading as Tong Kee Cafˆm, The Office of District Councillor Au Chi Yuen, Lau Wai Kwong trading as Kam Lung Siu Mei Lo Mei, Cheuk Wing Engineering Company Limited, Billion Base Industries Limited, Henson Technology Limited and Fung Shing Steel Furniture Company Limited - appeared. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $43,848, $21,840, $19,500, $19,162.50, $13,430.57, $7,930.97 and $3,277.48, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $250, $140, $160, $148, $125, $122 and $166.
