Following is the transcript (English portion) of a media session by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, after attending the commencement ceremony of the construction of the eastern section of the Second West-East Natural Gas Pipeline in Shenzhen this (February 7) morning:
Reporter: How can Hong Kong benefit from this scheme?
Secretary for the Environment: The new pipeline would bring additional natural gas to the region so first of all it brings cleaner energy not just for Hong Kong but also for the region. This is a big step towards building a greener Pearl River Delta region, enhancing the living condition in this area. For Hong Kong itsef, it will bring an additional supply of natural gas which increases the portion of cleaner fuel for our power generation, which in effect would bring cleaner air. So this will bring big benefit not just for Hong Kong but for the region at large.
