The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 4) obtained two orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $350,000 against two employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $18,000 on behalf of four employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.
The District Court today issued judgement against two employers, Wing Kai Motor Cycle Company Limited and Jumbo Merit International Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $180,024.03 and $169,942.47, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to three and 42 employees of the defendants respectively.
Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Hoi On Security Company Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $18,195.19, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants each to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the defendant to pay $186.40 as the costs in respect of the claim.
