Update on Arizona traffic accident (11am)

     The Immigration Department has been liaising closely with the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong (OCMFA) and the Consulate-General in Los Angeles to take follow-up actions after learning of a road accident that occurred on January 30 near Hoover Dam in Arizona, the US, a government spokesman said today (February 1).

     The spokesman noted that staff from the Consulate-General in Los Angeles and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (San Francisco) have arrived at the hospital to render assistance to those involved in the accident. Two Hong Kong women, a mother and her daughter, were involved in the accident. The mother was injured and is now receiving treatment in the hospital, while her daughter was killed in the car crash. The government extends its condolences to the family of the deceased.

     The department will continue to liaise closely with the OCMFA, the Consulate-General in Los Angeles and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (San Francisco) to render practical assistance to the two residents and their family.
