18 Continuing Education Fund courses de-registered
**************************************************

The Labour and Welfare Bureau announced today (January 20) that all reimbursable courses offered by the Hong Kong Institute of Continuing Education and the Penasia School of Continuing Education had been de-registered from the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) with immediate effect.

The decision was made on the grounds that the two institutions failed to comply with the conditions of approval for CEF registration.

A spokesman for the Bureau said, "The two training institutions have to inform all affected CEF applicants about the course de-registration. They must not accept new applications for the de-registered courses or promote them as CEF reimbursable courses."

"They have to continue to run the registered courses for those who have enrolled. If the courses have not yet begun, they must refund in full all course fees and related payments to the CEF applicants."

A list of the 18 CEF courses de-registered is at the Annex.  The information is also available on the website of the Office of Continuing Education Fund (http://www.sfaa.gov.hk/cef/courseinfo.htm).

The spokesman stressed that the Office of Continuing Education Fund would continue to closely monitor CEF courses provided by training institutions. Apart from authenticating attendance records of learners, assessment results and their claims for reimbursement, it will conduct surprise visits to course providers to ensure that the conditions of approval are fully complied with.
