Final performance of Schools Creative Music Showcase 2008-2009

The public has been invited to the final performance of the Schools Creative Music Showcase 2008-2009, which will be held next Tuesday, (January 20) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. Twelve outstanding school teams will stage their creative performances and compete for various awards.

The Schools Creative Music Showcase is co-organised by the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong Composers' Guild, and sponsored by the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Limited and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It aims to promote music making and stimulate students' creativity so that students will be able to express themselves through creative music-making together with various multi-media art forms.

Arts education can help students fully develop in the domains of ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics through engaging them in creating, thinking, exploring and self-learning. The annual Schools Creative Music Showcase is an initiative to promote arts education.

In the final performance, each primary school team will select one of the three designated "Sound Projects" of this year - "Big Tree Orchestra", "A Song of Mountains' Praise" and "Classroom Carnival" - and interpret the selected project in a performance for not more than seven minutes.

The secondary school teams will present their original music with movements, mime or dance performances within 10 minutes. This year all the creative projects have distinctive themes. Most of them attempt to reflect real-life problems.

The 12 creative projects were selected in a Preliminary Selection in early December. The primary and secondary school teams participating in the final performance are as follows:

* Baptist Lui Ming Choi Primary School
* PLK Tin Ka Ping Primary School
* PLK Wong Wing Shu Primary School
* SKH Tsing Yi Estate Ho Chak Wan Primary School

Principal Education Officer of the Curriculum Development Institute of the EDB Mr Sheridan Lee Sha-lun, and Chairman of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild Dr Joshua Chan Kam-bui will present prizes to award-winning teams.
