Help being given to Hong Kong residents in Japan traffic accident
*********************************************************

The Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has contacted the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR (OCMFA) and the Chinese Embassy in Japan for details of a car crash involving two Hong Kong residents.

A government spokesman said today (December 24) that the Immigration Department had established contact with the Hong Kong residents and sent its regards to them. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo) had also been in touch with police in Japan to learn more about the incident.

The accident involved a man and a woman. They were discharged from hospital after receiving medical treatment. The Immigration Department will continue to closely liaise with the OCMFA and the Embassy to follow up the case and render practical assistance to the two residents, such as arranging for their earlier return to Hong Kong.

Any Hong Kong residents who need assistance when travelling overseas may contact the Immigration Department's "Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit" 24-hour hotline at (852)1868.
