The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin Park.
The carnival starts at 8.30pm on December 31, 2008, and continues until 12.30am on the New Year's Day. Admission is free.
The carnival features a variety of entertainments including modern dance, jazz and hip hop by youth groups, standard and Latin American dance, a cappella, acrobatics, and percussion as well as live band performances.
There will be a Playstation 3 TV games corner and interactive games playzone. Carnival-goers may also write their New Year wishes on cards. Sculptures at City Art Square showcasing exhibits from around the world and spectacular lantern and lighting decorations at the carnival are focal spots for photo-taking. Roving artists will greet members of the public and add festive atmosphere to the carnival.
The climax of the carnival is the countdown to 2009 and at midnight a pyrotechnics show from the tops of the Main Stage, Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza and Sha Tin Public Library will light up the sky.
The public is urged to help keep the public areas clean and to respect public property. Aerosol sprays, metallic balloons and bottles are prohibited at the venues.
