The Central Policy Unit (CPU), together with the HKU Family Institute of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong and the Centre for Chinese Family Studies of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, today (December 3) held a one-day conference on 'Strengthening Hong Kong's Families: Embracing a Holistic Family Approach in Formulating Social Policy and Providing Social Services'.
The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, officiated and delivered remarks at the opening of the conference.
The conference, held at the University of Hong Kong, aimed to enhance family as a core value and promote a better understanding of its meaning and implications. It also sought to drive home the message that it was important for different Government bureaus and population sectors to embrace a holistic family approach in formulating social policy and providing services.
There were three discussion panels, tackling different themes of concern to the importance of a holistic family approach to social policies. The themes were 'Embracing Family in Government Policies: Meeting the Challenge of a Holistic Approach', 'Holistic Approach in Social Services and Clinical Practice', and 'Embracing a Holistic Approach: Towards Synergy and Co-operation'.
About 200 academics, think-tank representatives, NGO administrators, social workers, chairman and members of relevant advisory boards and committees, and Government officials took part in the conference.
