The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, today (November 21) presented commendation certificates to 31 volunteer leaders of 11 uniformed groups for their dedication and efforts in the training and development of young people over the years.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony of the Secretary for Home Affairs' Commendation Scheme, Mr Tsang said that uniformed groups had strived to nurture young people to serve the community through various activities to enhance their civic awareness as well as appreciation of the importance of unity and collaboration.
"Joining uniformed groups is indeed a valuable experience for young people. The increase in the number of uniformed groups and their members in past years fully demonstrate that their activities are widely recognised by various sectors in the community," Mr Tsang said.
He thanked uniformed groups for their full support and active participation in various promotion activities organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and youth organisations earlier to welcome the Beijing Olympic Games. The smooth implementation of these activities had enhanced the knowledge of young people in Olympics and their sense of national identity.
All the volunteer leaders awarded today have a long service in uniformed groups. Ten of them have served in their groups for 20 years and six for 30 years.
