The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council will hold an Open Day of the Legislative Council Building on November 29 (Saturday) from 9.30am to around 5.30pm. Marching bands will perform on that day to foster a more joyful and pleasant atmosphere for the event.

Three marching bands have been invited to perform on the Open Day.      The three marching bands will conduct their performance at 9.10am, 2pm and 4pm respectively on that day in the open area outside the Legislative Council Building (facing the Statue Square). Each session of performance will last for about 20 minutes.

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Marching Band & Drum Corps Association Mr Chan Chi-keung, who is in charge of arranging the performance, says the marching bands will play lively songs to match up with the environment of the Open Day.

The three bands, comprising students from different primary and secondary schools, are winners of gold award in the Hong Kong Marching Band Contest and the Marching Band Contest held by Music Office of Leisure and Cultural Services Department in the past few years. They have also been invited to Beijing to perform in Beijing 2008 Olympic Cultural Festival - International Youth Perform in Harmony with the Olympic Spirit, and participated in the marching band performance in the Olympic and Paralympic Equesterian Event in Hong Kong this summer.

Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, President of the Legislative Council, Hon Miriam LAU Kin-yee, Chairman of the House Committee, and Hon Fred LI Wah-ming, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, will officiate at an opening ceremony at 9.30 am on that day to mark the start of the event.

Some new initiatives will be introduced in the Open Day this year, including the setting up of a photo corner outside the Legislative Council Building for individual Members to meet the public and take photos with them, an exhibition booth with interactive computer games and flash presentation on the work of the Legislative Council. The new and enhanced civic education website will also be launched on the Open Day.

Admission is free and no ticket is required for the event. Those interested in visiting the Legislative Council Building are requested to assemble outside Public Entrance II of the Building (facing the Statue Square) at any time from 10am to 5.30 pm on that day to wait for admission at regular intervals.

The touring route will be one-way only and members of the public will enter at Public Entrance II and exit at Public Entrance I of the Legislative Council Building. At the start of the tour, visitors will be given a booklet introducing the work of the Legislative Council and a pamphlet on the new civic education website. They will receive a souvenir before leaving the Building.
