"Red Classic" concert showcases 60s & 70s Chinese music

¡@¡@The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra¡¦s ¡§Red Classic¡¨ concert next month (December) is a showcase of the unique style of Chinese music in the 60s and 70s. The programme includes ¡§Go Straight Ahead on the Road of Socialism¡¨, ¡§Red Flowers Spring Up Everywhere in Dazhai¡¨, ¡§The Red Flag Canal¡¨, ¡§Festivity of the Masses¡¨, ¡§Turn at Top Speed, You New Machine Tool!¡¨and ¡§There is a Golden Sun in Beijing¡¨ etc.

¡@¡@Under the baton of conductor Wai Sing-fat, the orchestra will perform with pianist Choi Sown Le, who will play piano concerto ¡§Youth¡¨ in the concert; Gu Zheng players Chow Lai Kuen and Wu Lap Shan; Dizi soloist Chan Man Wing; Souna Soloist Wu Chun Hei and Paigu player Leung Ching-kit.

¡@¡@Piano soloist Choi Sown Le studied with various masters including pianist Michelangeli and conductor Celibidache. Choi has performed with renowned conductors and orchestras including Maxim Shostakovich and Arpad Gerecz, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He was awarded "Instrumentalist of the Year" by the Hong Kong Artists Guild in 1990 and was the First Prize winner in the 1999 Pinault International Piano Competition in New York City.

¡@¡@The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra was established in 1979, to promote Chinese music and carry forward its rich heritage. The orchestra has given many public performances under the invitation of the Hong Kong Arts Festival Society, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and many private organisations of Hong Kong. Apart from performance activities, the orchestra has made many recordings in both cassette tape and CD, including Song of the Chariots, Gongs and Drums in Celebration of a Bumper Harvest and the Gold Disc winner, Fishermen¡¦s Song of the East Sea. In addition, the orchestra has toured Singapore, Taiwan, the United States, Australia and a number of cities on the Mainland.

¡@¡@Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, ¡§Concert by the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra ¡V Red Classic¡¨ will be staged at 8pm on December 13 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $140, $110 and $80 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
