A spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital made the following announcement today (November 7):
Six patients (aged from 38 to 63) of a female long stay ward have presented with upper respiratory tract infection symptoms since November 4. An appropriate test has been arranged for these patients and four of them are positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.
Two staff members of the ward have also presented with respiratory symptoms. One of them has recovered and resumed duty, the other staff member is still on sick leave.
Infection control measures in the concerned ward have already been enhanced. Admission to the ward has been suspended while all patients and staff in the ward are under close medical surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
