Chief Executive to visit UK and attend APEC Economic Leaders Meeting in Peru

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will visit Peru from November 21 to 23 to attend the 16th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. Enroute, he will visit the UK from November 18 to 20.

     While in London, Mr Tsang will meet the British Prime Minister and the Chairman of the UK's Financial Services Authority, to exchange views on the financial tsunami among other issues of common interest. He will also meet other business and political leaders, academics and the British media to update them on the latest developments in Hong Kong.

     Mr Tsang will officiate at the annual dinner of the Trade Development Council, and at a tourism promotion event organised by the HK Tourism Board.

     The Chief Executive will leave the UK for Peru on the afternoon of November 20.

     A major subject of discussion at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Peru this year will be the current financial crisis and APEC's response to it.

     The economic leaders will also deliberate on a wide range of issues including WTO trade negotiations, climate change and sustainable economic growth.

     The Chief Executive will be a speaker at the APEC CEO Summit, on the subject of strengthening global free trade and investment.

     The Chief Executive will be accompanied by the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr Norman Chan; the Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, Mr Kenneth Mak; the Information Co-ordinator, Mr Andy Ho; the Senior Special Assistant, Mr Chan Kin-ping; and the Assistant Director (Media), Mr Vic Yau.

     Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong on November 25. During his absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, will be Acting Chief Executive.
