The Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs Carrie Yau, together with a delegation of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, today (November 3) started a three-day visit in Hungary to foster closer cultural relations between Hong Kong and Hungary.

The visit followed an official visit to Hong Kong by the Hungarian State Secretary for International Affairs, Ms Katalin Bogyay, earlier this year, and her express invitation to Mrs Yau, for a reciprocal visit to arts organisations and higher education institutions of culture in Budapest.

Mrs Yau was joined by Professor Leung Nai-kong, Chairman, Professor Kevin Thompson, Director, Mr Ben Cruft, Dean of Music of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Ms Tisa Ho, Executive Director of Hong Kong Arts Festival.

Professor Leung Nai-kong said, ˇ§Hungary is rich indeed in cultural terms.  In readiness for West Kowloon Cultural District, to be immersed in the sheer dynamism of Budapestˇ¦s art, its museums, galleries, its music, theatre, and dance, and, moreover, to experience their effects on people from every walk of life, presents a rare opportunity to glimpse the sort of future environment we might wish for Hong Kongˇ¨.

During the first day visit at Budapest, Hungary, Mrs Yau met with Dr Marta Schneider, State Secretary for Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture. She also visited the Bartok Bela Secondary School of Music and Museum of Fine Arts.
