"Focus on Johnnie To" film retrospective to show in Melbourne

     "Focus on Johnnie To", a comprehensive retrospective of the works of Hong Kong film director Johnnie To, will be presented by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO), in Melbourne from November 6 to 16.

     The retrospective will screen 12 quality films by the renowned director, from his early productions to his most recent releases, at the ACMI cinemas.

     "The HKETO is proud to collaborate with ACMI to bring this retrospective of Johnnie To's films. Over the past three decades, he has generated Hong Kongˇ¦s finest film exports, entertaining millions and earning himself the respect and admiration of people around the world. It is an honour for us to be involved in this tribute to one of our most talented film directors,ˇ¨ the Director of HKETO, Ms Lorna Wong, said today (3 November).

     "ACMI is thrilled to present Johnnie To's unique, singular cinematic vision in this film programme. He is regarded as an institution in Hong Kong and his films are synonymous with quality film making. To is without a shadow of a doubt the most versatile and respected director to ever come out of Hong Kong and enjoy success in the West," ACMI Film Programmer, Mr James Nolen, said.

     The retrospective will be launched with Johnnie To's latest release "The Sparrow" on November 6. The 12 films in their chronological order are:
