The Director of Highways, Mr Wai Chi-sing, today (October 30) signed a $2.822 billion contract on behalf of the Government with Gammon Construction Limited for the reconstruction and improvement of a 6.8km long section of Tuen Mun Road (TMR) from Tsuen Wan to Tsing Lung Tau (Eastern Section).
The whole reconstruction and improvement project will be implemented under three separate civil works contracts. The one signed today (Contract No. HY/2007/09) for the reconstruction and improvement of TMR-Eastern Section is the first contract.
The Eastern Section Contract mainly aims to reconstruct and re-align the Tuen Mun Road between Tsuen Wan and Tsing Lung Tau to current expressway standard. The works include widening of traffic lanes to expressway standard width, provision of hard shoulders and verges, construction of highway structures, and the associated environmental mitigation measures, drainage works, slope works and landscaping works.
Upon completion of the whole project, TMR will provide an up-to-standard expressway linking Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan.
The TMR expressway section is a 15.5km long dual three-lane expressway linking Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan. It leads off Yuen Long Highway at Lam Tei Interchange and connects to Tsuen Wan Road, with slip roads connecting with Castle Peak Road in Tsuen Wan.
