The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) has today (October 25) organised a ceremony to officiate opening of its Kwun Tong Blood Donor Centre (KTC). The officiating guests of the Ceremony included Mr Anthony Wu, Chairman, Hospital Authority; Mrs Patricia Ling, Deputy Chairman, Hong Kong Red Cross; Mr Vincent Lo, Chairman, Blood Transfusion Service Governing Committee; Dr. Hung Chi-tim, Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon Central Cluster and artist Mr Sammul Chan.
Addressing the Ceremony, Mr Wu pointed out that the KTC was set up in the busy apm shopping mall building. With its spacious environment and entertainment facilities, the new Centre would hopefully attract more people in the Kwun Tong District to donate blood.
At the ceremony, the regular blood donor family, Mr Wong Wing Kin, his wife and children, shared the joy of blood donation. Mrs Tang, the mother of a premature baby who had recovered by blood transfusion treatment shared the importance of having blood for saving lives. In addition, the students of Maryknoll College (Senior Form), winner of many blood donation awards in the past years, performed a song they composed for blood donors. Youth idol Mr Sammul Chan also led a group of youth to give blood at the KTC.
To celebrate the opening of the new centre, donors who give blood at KTC during its opening period will be presented with a limited edition "Gasiapon Blood Boy" while stocks last. An additional souvenir "KTC Commemorative Crystal" will also be presented to blood donors during October 25 to 30 while stocks last. The public can call our hotline at 2710 1234 or visit our website at http://www.ha.org.hk/rcbts for details.
