Members of the public are welcome to visit a two-day exhibition on the winning entries of the 33rd Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions to be held at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Central Library, Causeway Bay, starting this Saturday (October 18).
The exhibition will feature more than 300 winning pieces from various categories of the competitions, including photography, painting, Chinese essay-writing, story-writing, Chinese calligraphy, slogan and poster design, couplets, Chinese poetry-writing, calendar design and horse statue design.
Prominent calligraphists and painters will give demonstrations on the first day of the exhibition and visitors may have the chance to obtain the works as souvenirs. There will be video shows on speech contests and on the spot competitions in folk song singing, classical Chinese poetry and Putonghua recitation.
First held in 1975, the competitions are jointly organised by the Hong Kong Youth Cultural and Arts Competitions and community groups and sponsored by the Home Affairs Department.
The objectives are to promote young peopleˇ¦s interest in and understanding of the Chinese language, arts and culture and to encourage them to participate in healthy extra-curricular activities. More than 30,000 entries in 21 categories were received in this yearˇ¦s competitions.
The exhibition will be open from 2pm to 6pm on October 18 and 10am to 6pm on October 19. Admission is free.
