Unlicensed food factory in North Point raided (with photos)

     Officers of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (September 30) raided an unlicensed food factory on the ground floor, 41-43 Fort Street, North Point, and seized about 30 kilogrammes of fried fritters, 80 kilogrammes of dough and 300 kilogrammes of raw materials.

     Five persons were arrested in the operation and are assisting investigations.

     Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory, upon conviction, is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

     "We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food businesses to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.

     "People should report such illegal activities through the department's hotline at 2868 0000."
