The Chief Executive has re-appointed Mr Martin Wheatley as the Chief Executive Officer of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for a period of three years from October 1, 2008, to September 30, 2011.
The appointment was made under Section 1, Part 1 of Schedule 2 to the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571).
Announcing the appointment today (September 30), a government spokesman said, ˇ§Over the years, Mr Wheatley has made invaluable contributions to the work and development of the SFC. We look forward to his continued dedicated service to the commission.ˇ¨
Mr Wheatley joined the SFC in June 2005 as Executive Director (Supervision of Markets). Mr Wheatley subsequently took up the post of Chairman of the SFC in October 2005. With the commencement of the Securities and Futures (Amendment) Ordinance in June 2006, the post of SFC Chairman was split into a Chairman post and a new Chief Executive Officer post. Mr Wheatley was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the SFC on June 23, 2006.
Prior to joining the SFC in June 2005, Mr Wheatley had worked for the London Stock Exchange for 18 years from 1985 to 2004 and had been its Deputy Chief Executive since 2001.
