The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 26) obtained an order in the District Court against an employer for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $63,000. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $89,000 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court issued judgment against Tak Fu Vehicle Repairs Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $65,315.25, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to five employees of the defendant.
At the tribunal's hearing, defendants Man Cheong Engineering Company Limited and Lee Yi May and Yan Chi Kin formerly trading as Design Station were ordered to pay the MPFA $42,849.56 and $20,704.14, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other two defendants, Cross Profit Limited trading as Chiu Hei Seafood Restaurant and Han Wan Container Line (HK) Co Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $14,352.60 and $12,091.94, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $185, $296, $169 and $80.
