Tenders invited for reconstruction and improvement of Tuen Mun Road - Tai Lam Section

     The Highways Department today (September 26) invited tenders for reconstruction and improvement of Tuen Mun Road ¡V Tai Lam Section.

     Tender submissions should be placed at the Government Secretariat Tender Box in the lift lobby on the lower ground floor of the Central Government Offices (East Wing), 20 Lower Albert Road, Hong Kong. Closing date is noon on November 21.

     Under the invitation to tender gazetted, the works mainly comprise:
(i)  reconstruction and re-alignment of Tuen Mun Road sections between Siu Lam and Tsing Lung Tau to current expressway standards;
(ii)  widening of traffic lanes to expressway standard width and provision of hard shoulders along Tuen Mun Road;
(iii) widening of highway structures including vehicular bridges, box culverts and subways;
(iv)  modification of existing seawall;
(v)   improvement of the merging/ diverging arrangement at Siu Lam Interchange;
(vi)  replacement of the existing road restraint system with new types of parapets and roadside barriers;
(vii) reconstruction of road pavement;
(viii)installation of noise barrier;
(ix)  ancillary works including slopes, drainage, landscaping, utility works; installation of traffic control surveillance and firefighting systems; modification of directional signs to current expressway standard; provision of catchwater decking and natural terrain hazard mitigation measures.

     The works are expected to begin in January 2009 and will take about 58 months to complete.

     The works have been designed and construction will be supervised by Maunsell Consultants Asia Ltd., which is appointed by the Major Works Project Management Office of Highways Department.
