The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 25) and yesterday (September 24) pursued claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $30,000 on behalf of 15 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendants, Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited and Creation One Fashions (Hong Kong) Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $21,420.85 and $650, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
At yesterday's tribunal's hearing, Dragon Motors International Company Limited did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $8,798.32, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited and Creation One Fashions (Hong Kong) Limited to pay respective costs of $120 and $105.
Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited and Creation One Fashions (Hong Kong) Limited had previously pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy to 28 and six counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and were fined $40,400 and $19,000 respectively.
