Ms Tina Cox-Prasad from the Bay Area won the Hong Kong Olympic & Paralympic Equestrian Events - Trivia Question Contest hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco.
Partnering with NBC Bay Area, the US official broadcaster of the Beijing Olympics, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco created a website (http://nbcextras.com/hongkong/index.html) to promote Hong Kong as host city of the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events. The online trivia question contest was part of the national publicity campaign which was launched in June and ran till the end of August.
The contest was open to all Bay Area residents. Entrants of the contest reviewed the information on the NBC website and answered questions relating to Hong Kong. Of all the entries with the correct answer, one winner was selected at random.
Among an overwhelming number of responses received throughout the Bay Area, Ms Tina Cox-Prasad from Foster City was the lucky winner. She won two Cathay Pacific round-trip air tickets from San Francisco to Hong Kong.
At the prize presentation ceremony held today at the NBC Bay Area Studio, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco, Ms Doris Cheung, said, "Hong Kong has received a record breaking 218 horses from 42 countries/regions for the Olympic Equestrian Events and another record breaking 71 horses from 28 countries/regions at the Paralympic Equestrian Events, which were successfully concluded today. It is the first time Hong Kong has held such premier international sports events and we are proud that both events were a resounding success. These inspirational events have left Hong Kong with an Olympic and Paralympic legacy. We are confident in hosting other major sports events in future."
Congratulating the winner, Ms Cheung said she hoped that Ms Cox-Prasad and her guest would enjoy visiting Asia's World City and experience first-hand the vibrancy and diversity of Hong Kong.
Also uploaded on the NBC website is "Hong Kong Reins", a special 30-minute TV programme on Hong Kong as an Olympic co-host city and Asia's world city which was broadcast on NBC Bay Area in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose on August 8, 2008, before the Olympics opening ceremony.
According to Mr Michael Friedman, Account Manager, NBC Bay Area, the programme helped to kick off NBC Bay Area's Olympic coverage. On an average night in primetime, more than 800,000 people watched NBC Bay Area's coverage of the Beijing games. More than 211 million Americans watched the games over the 17 days, making the Beijing Olympics the most viewed event in American television history, a mark unlikely ever to be matched again. During the Olympics, NBC Bay Area launched a new station campaign -- NBC Bay Area Proud -- featuring people who represent the many facets of life in the Bay Area. Viewers have praised the campaign and say they are also proud to call the Bay Area home.
