Survey of Hong Kong people living in Shenzhen
*********************************************

The Planning Department and the Shenzhen Municipal Statistics Bureau have agreed to jointly carry out the first ¡§Survey of Hong Kong People Living in Shenzhen¡¨, with the objective of understanding the situation of Hong Kong people living and acquiring residential properties in Shenzhen, and their socio-economic ties with Hong Kong.

¡§The interviewers arranged by the Shenzhen Municipal Statistics Bureau will interview Hong Kong people living in Shenzhen through face-to-face questionnaire interviews during household visits between September 10 and 30,¡¨ the Planning Department said. Information to be collected through the interview includes the socio-economic profile of these people, the living standards in Shenzhen, the pattern of ownership of residential properties acquired in Shenzhen and the characteristics of the residential properties owned/rented in Shenzhen, the marriages of Hong Kong people and the Mainland residents, reasons for living in Shenzhen and aspirations for changing the usual place of residence and the socio-economic ties with Hong Kong. More than 4,000 households have been selected randomly for the survey.

The findings of the survey would provide a useful reference for strategic planning in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen, the department said. The selected households with Hong Kong people are urged to co-operate and provide the required information so the survey can be completed smoothly. Personal information will not be disclosed, and only the compiled results will be used for analysis. All questionnaires will be destroyed after use.

It is anticipated that the report of the survey will be available in early 2009.
