A man who had been operating a clubhouse with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) in Tsim Sha Tsui was today (September 3) fined $2,000 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
The Kowloon City Magistrates' Court heard that a club in Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, had been operating with a CoC under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance. An inspection on the club was conducted by the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of Home Affairs Department in January this year.
During the investigation, officers of OLA, posing as customers, patronised the club for food and drinks without being asked to show membership status or being invited to join the club as members. The man, operator of the club, was found to be in contravention of the Special Condition 1 of the CoC, and he was subsequently charged with contravening section 21(1)(a) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
A spokesman for the department said enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
