A company which had been operating a North Point clubhouse with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) was today (September 2) fined $4,000 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
Eastern Magistrates' Court heard that a club in Jupiter Street, North Point, had been operating with a CoC under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance. An inspection on the club was conducted by the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of Home Affairs Department in April.
During the investigation, officers of OLA, posing as customers, patronised the club for food and beverages without being asked to show membership status or being invited to join the club as members. The company, holder of the CoC, was found to be in contravention of the Special Condition 1 of the CoC, and it was subsequently charged with contravening section 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
A spokesman for the department said enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
