A spokesman for the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health today (August 31) said that further laboratory tests on respiratory specimens taken from 11-month-old boy who passed away in the Prince of Wales Hospital yesterday yielded positive result to enterovirus 71 (EV71). The boy has not travelled to Hong Kong recently.
His three-year-old sister living in Haifeng was taken by her relative to Hong Kong this morning and was admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for fever and rash. She is now in stable condition.¡@Initial laboratory tests on the respiratory specimen taken from her also yielded positive results to EV71. The girl has not travelled to Hong Kong recently.
CHP has informed the Health Department of Guangdong Province of the result.
