**********************************

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (August 28) launched the "E&M Safety Campaign 2008" to promote electrical and mechanical, gas and railway safety as well as energy efficiency. The campaign is jointly organised with 18 organisations.

Introduced in 2001, the annual E&M Campaign is one of the largest public education programmes of its kind in Hong Kong. The 2008 campaign features a wide range of activities including a carnival, a school drama, a drawing competition, an online quiz and media publicity.

Through games and educational booths, drama and pop singer performances and a children's corner, members of the public will learn more about good practices in the use of electrical and gas appliances and installations, lifts and escalators, amusement rides and railways, and energy saving. Admission to the carnival is free.

The 2008 Campaign is jointly organised by Airport Authority Hong Kong, China Inspection Company Limited, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, ExxonMobil Hong Kong Limited, Hong Kong and Kowloon Electrical Appliances Merchants Association, Hong Kong Disneyland, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Housing Society, Hong Kong L.P.
