Eight employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 25) obtained an order in the District Court against an employer for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $68,000. The MPFA pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $100,000 on behalf of 17 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against Leung Wah formerly trading as Wah Lik Transport Co. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $68,007.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 11 employees.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Tung Fong Roasted Meat Wholesale Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA $42,814.49, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other six defendants, Kiss My Kids Limited, Lead Young Sea & Air Freight Co. Limited, Pridehill Ltd, Entente Construction Engineering Company, Tse Siu Ha trading as Fung Ki Decoration Company and Lau Ching Wai trading as Hong Kong Clean Services, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $24,345.18, $21,462.88, $6,044.61, $6,009.34, $416.30 and $362.64, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the defendants to pay respective costs of $206, $226, $110, $212, $150, $140 and $140.
