Sir Robert Ho Tung Fund grants for 179 charitable projects

     The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has this year allocated more than $11 million to 179 charitable projects in medical and health, rehabilitation, social welfare, education, community service and anti-drug abuse.

     A spokesman for the fund's Allocation Committee said today (August 22), "The fund's donation enables about 100 organisations to improve and extend their services to a large number of people, especially the underprivileged."

     The major grants included:

- $1.02 million for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to acquire equipment for the elderly and chronically ill patients, and to organise education camps for children with intellectual disability;

- $500,000 for the Samaritan Fund to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged patients to meet medical expenses;

- $482,000 for the Salvation Army to acquire equipment and organise programmes for children, youth and the elderly;

- $379,000 for Po Leung Kuk to acquire equipment and organise programmes for children with intellectual disability;

- $320,000 for the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital to replace worn-out furniture and nursing equipment for in-patient wards;

- $270,000 for the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council to acquire medical and nursing equipment for the elderly; and

- $262,000 for the Hong Kong Red Cross to acquire service equipment and organise activities.

     Other fund recipients included the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children; Hong Kong St John Ambulance; Heung Hoi Ching Kok Lin Association; Hospital Authority; Mother's Choice; Operation Dawn Ltd; Princess Margaret Hospital; Queen Elizabeth Hospital; Boys' Brigade, Hong Kong; Hong Kong Society for the Aged and Yan Chai Hospital.

     As one of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, the Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung.  It is now managed by the HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Limited.
