Six employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 18) obtained one order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $360,000 against an employer in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $110,000 on behalf of 10 employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against one employer, Well King Transportation Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $360,100.97, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 34 employees of the defendant.

     Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Bo Kam Hung formerly trading as Wiu Fai Construction Company, did not dispute the amount claimed. The adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA the sum of $44,038.6, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other four defendants, Lead Young Sea & Air Freight Co. Limited, Victor Sino Limited, Tse Yee Man trading as Overtarget Tutorial Centre and Wong Man Shun trading as K. F. Printing Machinery, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $46,769.21, $12,052.5, $6,897 and $3,335.48, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the defendants to pay $240, $160, $186, $210 and $192 as the costs in respect of the claims.
