Warning on beef extract with possible Salmonella contamination

¡@¡@The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (August 15) advised people not to consume certain batches of Bovril Beef Extract suspected to be contaminated with Salmonella.

¡@¡@According to the United Kingdom authorities, the company concerned, Unilever UK, is recalling the affected products, details of which are as follows:

1.¡@Product weight: 250 grammes (glass jar)
¡@¡@Best before: end January 2010
¡@¡@Batch codes: L8201XX795, L8206XX795, L8207XX795 and L8208XX795

2.¡@Product weight: 600 grammes (plastic tub)
¡@¡@Best before: end January 2010
¡@¡@Batch code: L8207XX795

¡@¡@"Retailers should also stop selling these particular products,¡¨ a CFS spokesman said.

     Salmonella is a pathogen that may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, such as abdominal pain and diarrhoea.

¡@¡@"The CFS has contacted the UK authorities for further information. We have informed the trade of the incident and are closely monitoring the situation," he said.
