Four employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 13) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $120,000 on behalf of 13 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Tang Mei Ling trading as Salon Head Line, did not dispute the amount claimed. The adjudicator ordered her to pay the MPFA the sum of $13,860, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other thee defendants, Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited, Gara Plastic Products Factory Ltd and Moon Garden Teahouse Limited trading as Sparkle Creative & Marketing, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $48,155.4, $44,033.56 and $16,915.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $230, $170, $160 and $100 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to 28 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $40,400.
