The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, visited the Eating Establishment Employees General Union this evening (August 7).
Mr Cheung was greeted by the chairman of the general union, Mr Yuen Fok-wo, and met members of the executive committee and chairmen of several affiliated unions under the general union.
Mr Cheung updated the attendees on the Government's latest efforts in protecting the rights and benefits of workers and promoting labour relations and employment services, as well as occupational safety and health.
He also listened to their views on labour issues relating to the trade.
The visit was part of the secretary's latest round of liaison visits to the major labour unions.
"Through these visits, I hope to strengthen communication and co-operation with the labour sector in fostering labour relations, safeguarding employees' rights and enhancing their safety and health at work.
"I look forward to working closely with all labour unions to make our community a better place in which to live and work," Mr Cheung said.
